Beshiri Bridge - in Tirana

Rr. "Llazi Miho", Ndroq, Tirana, 1041 Tirana-Tirana, Albania
Description:

The bridge over the Erzen River was built by the largest merchant family, Beshiri. The relatively large bridge with five towers was built in 1848 in the name of Haxhi Selman Beshiri's five sons, but it was actually built at the expense of the fourth brother Haxhi Ali Beshiri. This bridge served for the rich merchant to transport goods from Tirana to Durrës and vice versa. After a while the bridge was destroyed by the river. In 1851 Ali Beshiri financed its reconstruction. The bridge put into public service increased the popularity of the Beshiri family. However, the opponents of Ali Beshir organized the assassination of the latter on February 14, 1852, in the very place where he was supervising the works for its construction. Members of the Beshiri family rebuilt the bridge for the third time in 1859 and this bridge remained there until it was destroyed during World War II. The current new bridge built in 1945 is still known by the residents of the area as the "Beshiri Bridge".
